Gastrointestinal and liver diseases are an important, often forgotten, cause of morbidity and mortality in our population. Infectious agents, bacterial, viral and others are the most important cause of the gastrointestinal and liver diseases in developing countries, including ours. Importantly, the pattern of and cause of the diseases are separate from that in the developed countries of the west.
